Apprenticeships

Apprenticeship Programs:

* Wait and Research Apprenticeships Opportunities like you would any 2- or 4- year college or university.  Be sure to pursue multiple options and create a backup plan. Programs are highly competitive.

* To participate, you must be 18 years of age, pass a drug test (including no marijuana use even if legal in WA), and be physically able to perform the work.  There are some pre-apprenticeship training programs for students as young as age 16 (see below) 

* Realize each program and its application are different.

*Decide if you want to apply directly for an apprenticeship before/after HS graduation OR enroll in a 2-year college program that leads directly to an apprenticeship. 

*Find out when the program is accepting applications.  Be sure to ask if you are required to apply in person.  Travel may be necessary.

*You may need to take a test at a community or technical college. Many programs have prerequisites for math and reading comprehension.

*Usually interviewed by a committee. Prepare for an interview.

*Review individual program information through the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L & I).  See the programs in your area and which are taking applications through the Apprenticeship Registration and Tracking System (ARTS) on the L&I website at: Dept of L&I

Snohomish County Training Available for ages 16-24  through ANEW in partnership with WorkSource:  ANEW
Four week classes offered, beginning July 8, 2019.  ANEW's Career Connected Learning program gives participants the opportunity to extend their knowledge of the construction trades beyond the classroom though experiential learning opportunities. Graduates will build awareness of, exploration in, and preparation for multiple, career pathways that will help them make an informed choice around apprenticeships and the thousands of trades jobs available in Washington State.  Attend an info sessions in our area. Sessions begin May 6 and run through June 8, 2019.
